I've always loved a good romance.

I enjoyed it immensely. Perhaps the only annoying thing was Mario's slow dialogue. He is the son of a poor fisherman so maybe they were trying to portray him as somewhat uneducated. The majority of his village is illiterate although he can read and write. He befriends Pablo Neruda and eventually learns poetry. Mario uses that to seduce the beautiful Beatrice. Ain't love a crazy thing? I won't spoil the ending in case you haven't seen it. But I highly recommend.
Because of this film I'll be starting on the biography of Pablo Neruda next. A face like that had to write some mighty powerful love poems to woo so many women. Either that or he carried a bottle of chloroform.

The current book I'm reading is a trashy gay romance that I found while trolling through CyberPete's blog. It's a lovely story about a 30 something gay yuppie who moves to the suburbs. He falls in love with a supposedly straight handyman that renovates his kitchen. Then in the words of CP, "he does more than his kitchen." I'm 45% through the book so thank you Kindle statistics. It's like eating a greasy cheeseburger, there's no healthy nutritional value but it tastes oh so good.

Il Postino?
I've watched it not once but twice, it's that good.
A former boyfriend wooed me with Neruda (in Spanish) and it worked.
He's one of my fave poets.
Although I'm also fond of Ogden Nash so there you go.
Tramp!
I was once wooed by poetry also. Not on the caliber of Neruda so I suppose that makes me an even bigger tramp.
Oh, I don't know about THAT.
I might put out for an Ogden Nash verse.
I'd so put out for Pablo Neruda. Don't know Ogden Nash...will have to look him/her/it up.
Il Postino really made me cry. So beautiful.
Trashy reads honey, do what they say on the tin: they amuse, titilate and are fun. Literature is fine in small doses. Hell, I did a creative writing degree and I'm still the only one brave enough to admit I read sci/fi, fantasy and trashy romance regularly.
Havn't read either. but I do have a bash at writing the occasional Here But, I guess you know that already Hayward
Can I borrow that trashy novel of Petras'? I could do with some light loafered reading...
Oh hai MJ... Roses...
Princess, yes I've been following your other blog. You amaze me dear with your talent for words and for craft.
Please take that filthy read of Petra's. I was having lunch yesterday at a small cafe and brought it along. In the adjoining room, the ultra conservative DAR were having cucumber sandwiches while I was reading about two men doing the deed.
Neruda wrote a lovely poem about all the young men who died in the Spanish Civil War. I no longer remember the title, but I read it at the only eulogy I ever gave (first and last, thank you) for a friend who died of AIDS in the early days. His parents forbid me to mention gay men, Jesus, or AIDS in the eulogy. So I let Neruda take care of two topics and never planned on the third. I'm gonna have to get the bio now. Also love the movie.
